God’s Chosen People:
Did God choose a people above all others?
Deuteronomy 7:6 “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Exodus 19:5 ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;
Note: The statement ‘holy people’ are those that were to be consecrated to the service of God on this earth. But this was not absolute. Notice the very important word if.
Where did the chosen people originate?
Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: :2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;
Genesis 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
Note: God chose a special person, Abram. His name was later changed to Abraham, and is the forefather of a people that were to become God’s own, through the seed of Isaac, that would become a great nation. [See: 'Biblical Separation'.]
What were these chosen people called?
Exodus 3:18 “And they will pay heed to what you say; and you with the elders of Israel will come to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. So now, please, let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.’
Israel
Exodus 12:3 “Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.
Israelite(s)
John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 Corinthians 11:22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.
Are Judeans, Israel or Israelite(s) synonymous with Jew(s)?
It is a matter of semantics; (a study of meanings).
These words and terms must be defined and understood so there cannot be any misunderstanding of the scriptures.
An Israelite(s) or Judean(s) are never identified in the Bible as Jew(s).
The word Judean(s), Israel or Israelites are not and never were synonyms for Jew(s).
Can the word Jew(s) be found in the Bible?
The words and/or terms ‘Jew or Jews’ are both incorrect translations in any Bible.
There isn’t any Hebrew or Greek word(s) in the Bible that can be translated as Jew or Jews.
The Hebrew word for Judean pro-nounced in English is: Yahuwdiy.
The Greek words for Judean or Judeans is: Ioudai Idoumai Ioudai.
The Greek Word for Judah is: Iouda
Note: The Bible never used the words ‘Jew or Jews’ in any Hebrew or Greek text, and the Bible never confused Israel with Judah or Judah with Israel.
It is the theologians, Bible scholars, and Bible interpreters that bring about this confusion which is due to their failure to allow the Bible to interpret the Bible.
Their carelessness and improper research for Biblical words (along with their erroneous theological interpretations and meanings) are responsible for all of the misunderstanding regarding who Israelites and Judeans were.
Does the Bible demand proof for the identity of an Israelite?
Numbers 1:18 and they assembled all the congregation together on the first of the second month. Then they registered by ancestry in their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, head by head,
Ezra 2:59 Now these are those who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they were not able to give evidence of their fathers’ households, and their descendants, whether they were of Israel:
Ezra 2:62 These searched among their ancestral registration, but they could not be located; therefore they were considered unclean and excluded from the priesthood.
Nehemiah 7:61 And these were they who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers’ houses or their descendants, whether they were of Israel:
Nehemiah 7:64 These searched among their ancestral registration, but it could not be located; therefore they were considered unclean and excluded from the priesthood.
Nehemiah 7:5 Then my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials, and the people to be enrolled by genealogies. Then I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up first in which I found the following record:
1 Timothy 1:4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith.
Note: Many all over the world make the claim that they are Israel (descendents of Abraham).
If one chooses to do so, they have that religious right.
However, that claim must be proven by their ancestral registration. Otherwise, their belief is pointless because their genealogies are ‘mere speculation’.
Note: There are some Christians that claim that they are Israel in the spiritual sense, so their tenure position is that they are not required to prove any descent.
There is no Biblical [or historical] proof for anyone to claim that they are God’s chosen people.
