Image of God:
How does the Bible explain the image of God and man?
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let make man according to our image and likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the flying creatures of heaven, and over the cattle and all the earth, and over all the reptiles that creep on the earth. :27 And God made man, according to the image of God he made him, male and female he made them.
Genesis 2:7 And God formed the man of dust of the earth, and breathed upon his face the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.
Note: Man is not the ‘image and likeness of God’, but how God determined that man is to appear; mans image; what man is to look like. God does not have an image. See John 4:24.
Genesis 2:20 And Adam gave names to all the cattle and to all the birds of the sky, and to all the wild beasts of the field, but for Adam there was not found a help like to himself :21 And God brought a trance upon Adam, and he slept, and he took one of his ribs, and filled up the flesh instead thereof. :22 And God formed the rib which he took from Adam into a woman, and brought her to Adam. :23 And Adam said, This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of her husband.
1 Corinthians 11:7 For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. :8 For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; :9 for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake.
Note: According to the Bible, only the man was made in the image of God. Note what it says in Gen. 1:27. God made man according to the image of God he made him.
This does not say or imply that man is in God’s image. Man (his human body) is how God created it and is how we perceive it, because that is how God designed man to be.
Also note in verse :27 that it does not say that woman (female) is made in the image of God, but that only ‘he made them’. 1 Cor. 11:7-9 is self explanatory about this.
It is an un-Biblical assumption by the theologians and other Bible teachers that women were created in the image of God. It was the man that was made from the dust of the earth, not the woman. The woman would return to the dust of the earth after her death, because she was made from the man.
If man is the image of God (as an immortal spirit), then women could not have that spirit. The Bible is right, and the erroneous teachings from men are wrong.
Man was made from the soil, not from a spirit.
