Original Sin:
What does original sin mean?
The theological meanings are:
Sin originated with the fall of Adam in the garden.
Adam’s sin was then passed on to all people.
Therefore, infants are born into ‘original sin’ by no fault of their own because of Adam.
Original sin is also described as universal sin.
Is original sin Biblical?
The term ‘original sin’ was a theological phrase invented by Augustine, one of the early Christian theologians of the Roman Church.
Irenaeus, Origen and Cyprian [early church fathers] taught that: Infants are “reborn” by baptism. This baptism cleansed them from the sin that was “born” into them from their parents.
The teaching of original sin is a doctrine that cannot be found in the Bible.
What verses do theologians use to justify this belief?
1 Kings 8:46 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;
Job 15:14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Job 25:4 “How then can a man be just with God? Or how can he be clean who is born of woman?
Note: How can Adam be the father of original sin? Adam was not born of a woman.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned–
Romans 5:17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Note: It is true that all have sinned through one man, and that spread death. However, this does not imply or even hint at original sin.
Psalm 143:2 And do not enter into judgment with Thy servant, For in Thy sight no man living is righteous.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Note: It is true that none are righteous, but this does not even suggest original sin.
Theologians make the claim that these verses ‘point’ to the doctrine of original sin.
That does not make original sin true or Biblical.

1. The doctrine of original sin is from the teaching of men, not the Bible.
2. The theory or suggestion that it is Biblical does not make it so.
3. The theory that Adam was the perpetrator of some kind of original sin is in error, because Adam was not born from a woman. He was made from the soil.
