Passover:

What is the Passover?

Exodus 12:27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshiped.

Note: Passover was a symbolic ritual observance that celebrated the exemption of death by those that were covered by the blood.

What was the Passover associated with?

Exodus 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

Note: The Passover was observed with the Feast of Unleavened Bread. (The slaying and eating of the lamb, with bread made without yeast.)

The ordinance of the Passover and Unleavened Bread are inseparable. Neither one could be practiced lawfully apart from the other. To do so was in total violation of God’s Word.

Was the Passover fulfilled?

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us :8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Hebrews 7:27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Note: Jesus Christ has come, and fulfilled the Passover once and for all.

Christians that observe [even part] of Passover (or any of the rituals), can not be viewed in any Biblical way other than the Redeemer (Jesus Christ) has not yet fulfilled this ordinance.

It is an oxy-moron for anyone to state that Christ is our final Passover (once and for all) and then continue to observe the Passover with any kind of excuse or rationalization.

There are some sects that continue to practice Passover with the erroneous idea that they should observe Passover until the ‘second coming’ of Christ.

This nonsense is not Biblical. This is a theological teaching and doctrine to try and justify a religious belief. (See: ‘Second Coming of Christ’ and ‘Atonement’.)

Summary

1. Jesus Christ has come, and fulfilled the Passover once and for all.

2. The Lord’s Supper was to be observed, not Passover. The Lord’s Supper did not reject the truth that was symbolic of the ordinance of Passover, but proclaims literally that the Passover has been fulfilled by the death (sacrifice) of Jesus Christ once and for all.

3. For one to partake of the Lord’s Supper with the observance of Passover is contrary to the Word of God. The Lord’s Supper is in remembrance of Christ and his death only.

4. The ordinance of the Passover and Unleavened Bread are inseparable. Neither one can be Biblically practiced apart from the other.

5. The Passover ceremony as stated in the Bible had to be practiced in the way that God commanded and could not be changed by anyone for any reason. To do so would be in direct violation of God’s Word.

Fact: Christians that practice the ordinance of Passover, since the death and resurrection of Christ, are denying that Jesus Christ is the final Passover once and for all.

To continue the practice of a ‘Christian Passover’ is a religious tradition.
