The Lord’s Supper:

What did the Lord’s Supper represent?

1 Corinthians 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. :25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

Note: It was in remembrance of Christ’s death, not his resurrection.

How did one determine who is to partake of the Lord’s Supper?

1 Corinthians 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. :29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Note: There are some congregations that will not allow anyone to partake of ‘their communion’ unless they belong to their church, or assembly.  That is not allowing a man to examine himself.

(It is ‘their table’, not the Lord’s.) No one has ever had any Biblical authority to decide (or determine) who was, and who was not allowed to partake of the Lord’s Supper.

It was the personal responsibility of each individual.

[This is not ‘one body’ as taught in the Bible. See 'What is one body in Christ'.]

How was the Lord’s Supper to be administered?

Luke 22:17 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; :18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes. ” :19 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” :20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.

Note: Some Clergy insist that only a priest, pastor, or one that has been ordained can administer the Lord’s Supper. They conclude this because Christ administered the Passover to his disciples.  These Clergy are Vicars, whether they acknowledge it or not.

Note: A Vicar is a substitute of Christ, or a substitute for Christ.

These self righteous religious leaders do not take into consideration that Christ never said or implied that only ordained ministers are the only ones that are to conduct and administer the Lord’s Supper.

The Lord’s Supper could have been administered by anyone when practiced as the Bible teaches.

How long was one to continue the Lord’s Supper?

Luke 22:18 for I say to you, “I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”

1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

Summary

1. The Lord’s Supper was the last Passover meal.

2. The last Passover meal was symbolic of the body of Christ (bread), and the shedding of his blood (cup).

3. The Lord’s supper was not, and is not Christian.  [Traditional communion is.]
The Lord’s Supper is not the traditional, and practiced Christian communion that is taught. [See 'Communion'].

It was a time of fellowship in memory of the death of Christ, until He came.

It was a meal belonging to the Lord.

4. The Lord’s Supper was the New Covenant, which is Christ.

5. Each individual was to examine themselves before the Lord’s Supper.

6. The Lord’s Supper should never be involved with traditional practices.

7. The Lord’s Supper was only to continue until he came.

All traditions of the Christian religions should never be taught, observed, or practiced over the teachings of the Bible.

To partake of the Lord’s Supper in any way other than what is taught in the Bible, is in error.

The Lord’s supper as practiced today is a tradition.
