The Second Coming of Christ:
Where does the Bible state ‘second coming’?
Note: The statement ‘second coming’ of Christ can not be found in the scriptures. It is a term that was devised by extra-Biblical teachings and then past on by theologians. This doctrine is usually coupled with “the sky is going to fall” scare tactic.
Christ is to ‘appear a second time’.
Where in the Bible does it state that Christ will appear a second time?
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
Note: There is only one verse that states that Christ will ‘appear’ a second time.
The improper term ’second coming’ is used by some that believe that the second appearing of Christ will be the establishment of his kingdom and throne upon the earth.
How was Christ to appear?
Matthew 24:30 and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.
Note: The Bible does not state or imply that the second appearing of Christ will be upon this earth. The second appearing is in; on; or with the clouds.
To whom will Christ appear?
Hebrews 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
Will some that were with Christ be alive at the time of the second appearing?
Matthew 10:23 “But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you shall not finish going through the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man comes.
Mark 9:1 And He was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
Note: The Disciples will not finish going through the cities of Israel before Christ is to appear. There will be some (in that period of time) that will still be alive when this will occur.
When was the second appearing to take place?
Matthew 24:34 “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Mark 13:30 “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Luke 21:32 “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.
Note: This will be in their time period, in their generation, and all things take place.
How soon was the appearing to be?
Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Note: It was at hand. At hand means: Near; soon; shortly; nigh; little while .
Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Note: Quickly. Quickly means: shortly; without delay; soon; suddenly; readily.
These statements were to those in that period of time, not to or for anyone thousands of years in the future.
Why was a second appearing necessary?
It was a sign to show and prove that the Atonement sacrifice for sin was accepted by God.
If the priest did not appear a second time it was because he died in the Holy of Holies and the sacrifice was not accepted by God.
If Christ has not yet appeared a second time, then the Atonement has not yet been accepted, and one’s salvation is in the ordinances of the old covenant, not Christ. (See: ‘Atonement’).
The second coming of Christ upon this earth is a fable [from teachings by theologians]. (See: ‘Kingdom of Christ’).
